We all know about wiping our feet at the door of someone's home. This practice is simple, almost mindless, but it keeps us from dragging all sorts of things we've picked up on the way into the homes of our friends and loved ones. Now, if we can just do this with words.

Tattered and Blue

If I open my home, would you clean off your shoes
Just use the door mat, though it's tattered and blue
Some folks don't know what home is to me
Are you coming to stay, are you just passing through

Sometimes we take turns thrown under the bus
While you're being you, I'm just being me
It's hard guarding home and lettin' some folks in
There's a certain way things always have been

When we're walking along, we pick up the road
Sometimes dust and dirt, sometimes people you know
Words, they can cling and gnaw at your souls
Despising the pain won't loosen their hold
